Really happy that the San Diego Union Tribune is helping me get the word out. When people hear the word ‘refugee’ they often think of a random person who has shown up uninvited on some shore or crossed some border. In the case of Afghan wartime allies, however, due to nuances in immigration law, they arrive only after invitation, verification, security vetting, and only after preps are ready for their settlement. They do so under a program that is technically a ‘refugee’ program under immigration law. Most people don’t realize that.
Massive changes to refugee processing without making exceptions for wartime allies would hurt those who stood by us in war!
